The registration of recreational boats has fallen by 12% so far this year, not because of a lack of interest in buying, but because of the lack of moorings, which slows down the decision to buy, and because there is an accumulated delay of between 9 and 15 months in the delivery of recreational boats due to problems in the supply of engines and other components.
The president of the Pimeef Nautical Association, Ramón Díaz, who has been on the programme 'Hoy por Hoy for Ibiza and Formentera', says that those who have not bought their boat a year in advance will be left ashore this season. There will also be problems in the near future, says Díaz, because there will be a lack of spare parts and important material for boat maintenance. A lack of stock that has been dragging on since the end of last year.
In addition to the supply problems, there is also a lack of qualified personnel affecting all sectors. Díaz says that his sector in particular, because it requires very specific training which, although it is offered on the island, there will not be enough workers.
